"There's a place for you on The Bridge"

About Us

On June 15, 1998, Gordon and Rachelle returned home to Hawaii after living in Kansas City for the past four years.  They came home to begin a new chapter in their lives and start a brand new church called the Bridge.

The Bridge first began as a Bible study in Pastor Gordon’s home.  On September 10, 1998, nine people gathered for the very first Bible Study.  It was clear that God was involved from the very start.  Miracle after miracle opened the way for the Bridge to move out of Pastor Gordon’s home and into their first facility.  On October 25, 1998 the Bridge had its first practice service at Halawa District Park.  The Bible study had grown to 16 people and the plans for a grand opening were in place.  On November 28, 1998 the Bridge hosted a free concert featuring Malani Bilyeu.

About 300 people showed up for the concert and free dinner.  It was a great opportunity to tell the community about the new church and about the love of Jesus Christ.  On that night 25 people accepted Christ as Lord and Savior.

The next day, November 29, 1998, the Bridge Church opened its doors for the very first time and 170 people were in church on the very first Sunday.  There were 70 teens from across the islands that came to help the Bridge launch the church.  Also, the Honolulu First Samoan Church joined the Bridge for worship that day.

The next Sunday, 33 people came to worship and the Bridge Church was on its way.  It wasn’t long before an opportunity for us to move to Radford High School became available.  So in May 1999, we moved the church to its current location.

Our mission statement is based on these two passages that keep us accountable to God as individuals, while providing accountability to each other and a purpose and goal for our daily living.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it:  Love your neighbor as yourself.  --Matthew 22:37-39

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.  --Matthew 28:19-20

Bible Based – we believe that the Word of God is Truth.  It contains the solutions for the problems of today.  It is also relevant for the people of today.  2 Timothy 3:16-17

Relationship Centered – we believe that real ministry happens in the context of relationship. Thus we emphasize the importance of having a personal relationship with Christ and his people.  Acts 2:42-47

Intercessory Prayer – we believe that prayer unleashes the power of God.  We are committed to intercessory prayer on Sundays and  throughout the week.  Colossians 4:2

Development of People – we believe in the process of discipleship as a means of developing people for God’s use.  2 Timothy 2:2

Global Impact – we have a vision not just for our community, but for God’s community.  We believe that with God’s help, we can impact the world.  Matthew 28:19-20

Excellence in ALL We Do – we exist to do our best for God and his people.  Colossians 3:17
